Unfortunately there I did not receive much feedback from you guys, so I guess i will have to figure out, what could interest you about living and working on Phuket. Today I like to share some information about the medical facilities on the island. No worries, we are all healthy, but we had a couple situations, when we were happy to know, where to go. In Phuket you will find a variety to get medical assistance. First of all there are normal clinics all around the island, which you would go to if you have a cold or minor injuries. These clinics are, as I mentioned, widely spread over the island , but have very strange opening hours. Usually in the morning from 8a.m. until noon and then again in the evenings from 5-8p.m. I still have not figured out why that is, but maybe one day someone will enlighten me. Well and then you of course you can also find hospitals in Phuket. You can differenciate between the government and private hospitals. There are two big, well equipped government hospitals, which the biggest difference, compared to private hospitals, is the price you pay. If you don't really need 5 star luxury in your hospital room or flatscreens or mini bar, then you better off to a government hospital. The two main government hospitals are the Mission (http://www.missionhospitalphuket.com/main_en.html) and Vachira Hospital (http://www.vachiraphuket.go.th/www/english/). The doctors speak very good English and the service is very good. The two private top hospitals are the Phuket International (http://www.phuketinternationalhospital.com/) and the most expensive on the Bangkok Phuket Hospital (http://www.phukethospital.com/).
Luckily we had not had many hospital visits, since we came to Phuket and it better stay this way. But we experienced both (government and private) and would definitely not go to the private hospitals, if we hadn't had medical insurance by now. The government hospitals are a lot cheaper and definitely not behind. The only disadvantage there is that it is really really busy day and night, as no Thai person would ever go into a private hospital. A lot of services for Thais are free of charge at the government hospitals and fast we learned, that at the private hospitals, the most important thing is, if you are able to pay your bill at the end.
If they have doubts or you can't prove it, you get the feeling that is more important, than actually helping you first. That is a bit scary (well I guess it's all about money), but it makes your decision a lot easier where to go. There are some pictures above from all four hospitals and I hope you enjoyed my first post in English. A lot more will follow and please, let me know, if you are interested to read about a specific theme.
